"The Blue Mountains are beautiful because nature
simply decided to show off."

Kyah Hotel & Blue Mountains Weddings
Thoughtful. Purposeful. Inspiring.
Some wedding locations immediately make you feel something.
The Blue Mountains is one of those places.
You can feel it before you even arrive.
The winding roads.
The cooler air.
The dramatic landscapes.
The sense that you're heading somewhere significant.
For me, photographing a wedding in the Blue Mountains feels exciting.
It feels inspiring.
And it feels completely different to every other region I work in.
A Different Kind Of Wedding Destination
Sydney feels busy.
The Central Coast feels coastal.
The Hunter Valley feels warm and golden.
The Blue Mountains feel moody.
Wild.
Rugged.
Almost sacred.
It's one of the few places in New South Wales where the landscape itself feels bigger than everything happening within it.
And that's exactly what makes it so special.
Why Kyah Hotel Stands Out
Kyah Hotel doesn't look like every other wedding venue.
And I mean that as a compliment.
The first thing that struck me was how bold it felt.
A crisp white hotel.
A pink tennis court.
Unique art pieces.
Unexpected colours.
Interesting design choices.
Most wedding venues play it safe.
Kyah doesn't.
It embraces creativity.
It takes risks.
As someone who makes a living through creativity, I loved that immediately.
It felt artistic.
Thoughtful.
Purposeful.
The Kind Of Couple Kyah Hotel Suits
Kyah feels perfect for couples who want something a little different.
People who appreciate:
- Design
- Creativity
- Personality
- Nature
- Great accommodation
- A quieter wedding experience
It's sophisticated without being pretentious.
Stylish without feeling overly polished.
And because it's located so close to the Blue Mountains, you get access to some of the most spectacular scenery in Australia within minutes.
The Wedding Day
This particular wedding featured two grooms and a small group of close friends and family.
The day began with both grooms getting ready together in the same hotel room.
One of the grooms is Thai and was dressed in traditional attire featuring intricate gold details, jewellery and beautiful cultural elements.
The room itself felt different to many wedding mornings I've photographed.
Everyone was relaxed.
Everyone was comfortable.
Everyone was completely themselves.
The conversations flowed naturally.
The laughter was constant.
There was no pressure to perform.
No pressure to pretend.
Just people enjoying each other's company.
And honestly, that energy became the defining characteristic of the entire day.
The Ceremony
The ceremony space was intimate.
Perhaps even a little tight.
But what stood out wasn't the location.
It was the guests.
Every face seemed to be smiling.
Every guest seemed genuinely invested in what was happening.
There was a sense that everyone present understood the journey these two men had taken to arrive at this moment.
And they were absolutely thrilled to see them so happy.
It was beautiful to witness.
Chasing Autumn Colours
After a quick group photo, we headed to a nearby street lined with incredible autumn trees.
Massive red canopies stretched overhead.
Cars occasionally passed through.
People wandered by.
But with a little patience and timing, we created something that felt quiet and intimate.
And then we drove to the mountains.
The Moment I Understood The Blue Mountains
I've photographed beaches.
I've photographed vineyards.
I've photographed forests.
I've photographed cities.
The Blue Mountains are different.
Standing at the lookout, I found myself struggling to focus on the couple.
Not because they weren't incredible.
But because the landscape was so breathtaking.
That never happens.
The scale.
The depth.
The colours.
The atmosphere.
Nothing else in Australia quite looks like it.
You immediately understand why people travel from around the world to experience it.
Why I Love Photographing The Blue Mountains
The ruggedness.
The Australian-ness of it all.
It feels untamed.
Wild.
Raw.
There are places that look beautiful because they've been carefully manicured.
The Blue Mountains are beautiful because nature simply decided to show off.
What Couples Don't Realise
The Blue Mountains are enormous.
And that matters.
Many couples assume that all Blue Mountains locations offer the same experience.
They don't.
Where you choose to stay.
Where you choose to marry.
Which lookouts you want access to.
What scenery matters most to you.
All of these things should influence your planning.
And one more thing.
It's cold.
Much colder than most couples expect.
Especially once the sun disappears.
What Makes Great Weddings Great
Over the years I've photographed weddings across different cultures, religions, traditions and family structures.
I've photographed large weddings.
Small weddings.
Traditional weddings.
Completely unconventional weddings.
And one thing remains true every single time.
People are happiest when they are unapologetically themselves.
When they're loved for exactly who they are.
When they feel safe enough to be authentic.
That's what creates the best atmosphere.
That's what creates the best photographs.
And that's what made this wedding so memorable.
My Favourite Memory
The obvious answer would probably be the mountains.
Or the autumn trees.
Or the incredible dance floor.
But honestly?
The energy.
Everyone was happy.
Everyone was comfortable.
Everyone was free to be themselves.
That kind of atmosphere is infectious.
It lifts everyone around it.
Including the photographer.
My Favourite Photo Location
The mountain lookout.
Without question.
Standing there and looking out across the valleys felt surreal.
It's one of those moments where you immediately understand why people choose to get married here.
No photograph truly prepares you for seeing it in person.

Final Thoughts
Kyah Hotel is special because it provides a beautiful, creative and peaceful base only minutes from one of Australia's most spectacular national parks.
And the Blue Mountains themselves are special because they remind us that some things can't be replicated.
Not the scenery.
Not the atmosphere.
And not the feeling of standing beside the person you love while looking out across one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the country.
The best weddings aren't defined by who is getting married.
They're defined by the love they're celebrating.
